It’s the start of a new week and the loads are piling up.

You’re sifting through the Sunday backlog: hotel linens need to be sorted quickly, one of your hard-working staff has called in sick, a three-piece suit needs a rewash and your dryer is making a noise you haven’t heard before. It’s not even lunchtime.

Running a commercial dry cleaning service requires a consistent, continuous cycle with little downtime. We know.

Taking a moment to assess whether your current setup can cope with changing customer demands and unexpected disruptions will help prepare you for whatever the next basket throws at you.

Weigh up demand

☐ Compare the last four weeks of incoming loads to identify peak days and quiet times.

☐ Check when contracted and/or industrial workloads tend to arrive.

☐ Assess whether staffing levels still match the busiest operating periods.

☐ Review how much of the workload comes from one-off customers versus commercial contracts on a routine basis.

Watch the process

☐ Follow a garment through the entire process at peak time to identify hold-ups.

☐ Maintain a log to monitor rewashes, identifying patterns that may be causing issues.

☐ Observe whether staff regularly pause work to wait for machines, instructions or space.

☐ Review whether delivery and collection times, or late arrivals, are causing disruption.

☐ Ask staff for feedback on any issues in their specialist area of the process.

Maintain your machines

☐ Check whether certain machines are consistently overloaded while others are underused.

☐ Listen for signs of equipment strain or reduced performance during heavy workloads.

☐ Assess whether maintenance tasks are being delayed during busy operating periods.

☐ Check whether lint filters are being cleaned often enough during busy periods.

A clear next step

Taking a moment to assess your current setup will help make sure you’re set up to deal with anything that lands in the next delivery but why stop there?
