Heaton Stannington FC score an open goal with no cost solar

Heaton Stannington Football Club are a Semi-Professional Football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne in the North East of England, earning promotion to Division One East of the Northern Premier league in the 23-24 season.

Working with Troo and their partner HDM Energies, they have made great strides in improving their energy efficiency and sustainability by implementing a comprehensive renewable energy solution.

The challenge

Energy has become a major expense for the club. They have been subjected to unpredictable energy prices and increasing energy requirements. Careful management of their energy strategy was required.

The solution

They opted for the installation of solar panels and a battery storage system all of which were installed on their premises without upfront cost.

Through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) they secured a fixed rate for their generated solar energy keeping their costs predictable for the next 17 years, the length of their agreement.

The outcome

• By generating their own renewable electricity on-site, they are estimated to reduce annual energy costs by 21%.​
• The PPA provides the club with a fixed, low-cost rate for solar energy over the 17 year term, offering price certainty and protection against rising energy costs.​
• The inclusion of battery storage allows the club to store excess solar energy for use during peak times, reducing reliance on the national grid.​
