Client overview

A CLA member approached CLA Energy Services during the energy crisis in early 2023. They were dealing with a complex billing issue and sought support in managing their energy contracts more effectively.

 
 
 

The challenge

 The client faced a significant overcharge of approximately £7,000 after their previous supplier issued an incorrect final meter reading. This billing error caused confusion between the old and new suppliers over liability. At the same time, the client needed to secure new contracts and explore ways to maximise the potential of their site, which included a large connection wire running through their land.

 
 

Our solution

We worked closely with the client to address both immediate and long-term concerns:

  • We liaised with both the previous and current suppliers to identify responsibility for the incorrect reading. Following discussions, we confirmed that the previous supplier was liable for the error and ensured the client was refunded the overcharged amount.

  • We negotiated new energy contracts for the client, achieving a 23.7% reduction in costs compared to their previous terms, with agreements in place until 2025.

  • In collaboration with our Energy Solutions team, we discussed options to maximise the client’s site potential, focusing on the strategic use of the large SSE connection wire running through their land.

 
 
 

The impact

The combined efforts delivered tangible results:
  • Resolved billing error - £7,000 refunded to the client after the incorrect final meter reading was corrected.

  • Lower energy costs - A 23.7% reduction in energy costs through newly negotiated contracts.

  • Strategic planning - The client now has a clearer understanding of how their site’s infrastructure can be optimised in the future.
