3. The risky way: use a business energy broker

Why is this the risky way and not the best way? After all, a business energy broker is an expert in the energy market. They review different suppliers every day, they put prices in front of you so you can easily compare them, and they do the hard work so you can focus on your business.

Here’s the problem: business energy brokers aren’t regulated. They don’t need to go through any kind of training before they set up their businesses. They have preferred energy suppliers, so their recommendations are not objective. Finally, most energy brokers give you tariffs that secretly include it’s fees in the unit rate.  The broker gets paid it’s fees every time you turn on a light or use your PC, and you’re stuck paying it until the contract comes to an end. 

Worst of all, they don’t even tell you how much their fee is – so you have no idea what your energy actually costs. If they’re a sub-broker for a larger brokerage, they’ll even add a second lot of sales commission to your rate – and they won’t tell you about that, either.
